I just got back from a trip to Colombia’s capital city Bogota. I had to get an affidavit notarized at the embassy saying that I’m not married, so that I can get married here. Then of course I had to get it translated officially to Spanish and this week I will go to a Notary in Haton Nuevo to make the paper legal.
BORING…
But while I was there I got to play tourist some. I ate at some nice restaurants and got to do some sight seeing. The room that my friend Arturo and I rented was really inexpensive. For 4 days and 3 nights I paid $30. The house was in the middle of the historic district called Candelaria. The district has buildings that were built by the Spanish and is a very safe place with a lot of culture and universities. In general from what I saw in Bogota most of the people are fairly well educated, cultured, and speak very properly. And there are a lot of really pretty girls. However I didn’t really take any trips down dark alleys in the barrios on the outskirts of Bogota. There is always different views for the same picture.
Arturo is a friend I made here in Santa Marta who went with me. He is a lawyer with a struggling practice who sues the government for pensions, and various things like that. He is a very cool dude.
I made a couple other friends while I was in Bogota. Olga, is the owner of the room we rented during our stay. I have never met a nicer person. She is very high class as far as character goes. Her house is worth about 1.5 million dollars, but you would never think of her as rich just because she doesn’t carry herself with the arrogance that a lot of rich people here have. Another friend I made is named Julio. He is kind of like an accountant for a chain of family restaurants in Bogota.
By the way: Bogota is really, really cold!
